Editor applications are CLOSED.

The application process consists of two rounds, the first being the actual application. After applications close, emails will be sent to all applicants detailing whether they will be extended an interview. Due to the high number of applications we get every year and our extremely limited spot availability, our editor selection process is competitive and consists of two stages:

  • PRELIMINARY: If the status of your application on Submittable updates to In Progress, you will be moving on to the Interview Stage, and will receive an email from us detailing next steps. If your submission is Declined, we unfortunately will not be extending you an interview or a position offer.

  • THE INTERVIEW: All interviewees will be prompted to sign up for an interview date and time (a list of possible dates will be made available to you to choose from). The interview will take place virtually over Microsoft Teams. Anyone who fails to sign up in time will not get an interview or a position offer.

Read below for more information on what we’re looking for in an editor and what being on the team encompasses. If you have any other questions, you can contact us via the Contact Form or email us at threadmagazineusf@gmail.com.

FAQ

Is this a paid position?

No. Unfortunately, working on the Thread Magazine team is not a paid opportunity and is rather a labor of willing passion. However, that does not diminish its value; it will give you a resume boost, look great to prospective employers, and strengthen your editorial and literary skills, whether professionally or personally.

Do I have to be based on the Tampa campus?

No. Effective 2021, we allow students from all University of South Florida campuses to be considered for an editing position with Thread. However, please keep in mind that there is a possibility we may occasionally hold in-person meetings throughout the year, so flexibility in commute is important. But we will be running dominantly in a virtual setting to accommodate busy and conflicting schedules.

If my application gets rejected, can I apply again next year?

Yes, absolutely. As long as you are still enrolled as an undergraduate student at any of the USF campuses, we would love to see you again.
